XARELTO LAWSUIT

New Jersey Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) Attorneys

Xarelto is an anticoagulant that has allegedly been linked to serious and even deadly side effects. If you or a loved one has experienced a harmful Xarelto side effect, you may be entitled to seek financial compensation for the injuries you have experienced. Even if your loved one has passed away because of Xarelto side effects, you may be able to file a wrongful death suit against Johnson & Johnson (“J&J”), its subsidiaries or other responsible party.

About Xarelto

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) was first approved by the FDA in 2011 and is marketed by Bayer and J&J. Xarelto is a prescription medication with three primary uses: to reduce the risk of blood clots and stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation; to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism; and to reduce the risk of blood clots in patients joint replacement surgery.

Xarelto belongs to a class of anticoagulants called direct factor Xa inhibitors. Sometimes referred to as blood thinners, anticoagulants interfere with the normal clotting of the blood. Clotting is essential if a person is to stop bleeding from an open wound, but some people experience clotting when they are not injured. For instance, people with atrial fibrillation have an irregular heartbeat that can cause blood to pool in the heart, which may lead to clots and an eventual stroke. Blood clots that develop in the legs and blood clots in the lungs can cause serious complications and even death.

Xarelto Side Effects

When people experience side effects they suspect were caused by a prescription or over-the-counter medicine, they or their doctors may report the events to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These events are recorded in the FDA Adverse Events Reporting System (AERS). There have allegedly been more than 2,100 total adverse event reports involving Xarelto, with over 1,800 listing Xarelto as the primary suspect for the adverse event. Of the thousands of adverse events linked to Xarelto, the most common events were the following:

  • pulmonary embolism
  • stroke
  • deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • gastrointestinal bleeding
  • hemorrhage
  • thrombosis
  • hemoglobin decrease
